GENE MAKOWSKY TO BE INDUCTED INTO THE CANADIAN FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME TODAY IN SASKATOON!
I am looking forward to joining colleagues tonight at the official ceremony of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame. It is so exciting for our province to host the 2015 Induction Ceremony and Hall of Fame weekend right here in Saskatoon. The Hall of Fame committee is thrilled to working with two great organizations, both the Huskies and Hilltops who are the model of success in Amateur football in Canada.
The Class of 2015 includes builders Bob Wetenhall, Bob O'Billovich and Larry Reda along with players Leroy Blugh, Dave Dickenson, Eddie Davis and Saskatchewan's Gene Makowsky!
Gene Makowsky, a fellow Saskatchewan Party MLA is known for his work ethic and great personality whether it's on the football field, coaching youngsters or in the legislature. Prior to being an MLA, Gene played his entire 17-year football career with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. In fact he has played the most games of any Rider. Throughout his career he played a total of 284 regular season games, 16 playoff games and 4 Grey Cup games with Saskatchewan. Gene was also inducted into Saskatchewan Roughriders Plaza of Honour in 2013.
The festivities this week will include fun and excitement that pays tribute to the legends of the game. The events include the Hall of Fame Jacket presentation that was held last evening, the Bust unveiling held today at the Delta Bessborough and the Induction Dinner this evening. They will also be attending the University of Saskatchewan Huskies game Friday. The Canadian Football Hall of Fame weekend will wrap up in Regina as the Saskatchewan Roughriders host the Calgary Stampeders at Mosaic Stadium.
