REMEMBERING THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE - LEST WE FORGET
Earlier this week we celebrated Veteran's Day to honour those who served in our nation's armed forces. It was a privilege to gather to show our appreciation for their service, sacrifice and dedication to this great country. I was honoured to lay a wreath at the annual Remembrance Day Service in Saskatoon November 11. I am always overcome with heartfelt emotion at this special service of remembrance. I joined nearly 10,000 people at the city's annual service at SaskTel Centre. It was overwhelming to see a record number of attendees at the largest indoor service in Canada. The ceremony, which marked its 84th year paid special tribute to the Royal Canadian Legion. The veterans' organization is marking its 90th anniversary this year. I encourage everyone to take a few moments every day of the year to remember the ultimate sacrifice made for our freedom.
In honour of all Saskatchewan’s veterans, the eight-part video series Stories of Courage: Saskatchewan Second World War Veterans Remember will be rebroadcast in its entirety this Remembrance Day on City Saskatchewan. The broadcast is part of a touring program of films on the First and Second World Wars from the collection of the Yorkton Film Festival (YFF).
“We take time each November to reflect and thank the generations, that preceded many of us, for their courage and sacrifice,” Provincial Military Liaison and Wood River MLA D.F. (Yogi) Huyghebaert said. “With programs like this, the stories will live on and ensure that future generations are aware of Canadian history.”
